Preventative Pet Health Care
How can we help you look after your pet?
We believe in focusing upon the prevention of
disease as much as its treatment and we understand the crucial role
that you can play in prolonging your pet's life.
We recommend:
A bi-annual health check and review. A bi-annual
examination with one of our Veterinary Surgeons can play a vital
role in preventing disease and detecting potentially life
threatening illness at an early stage.
Regular vaccinations, most dogs, and cats should be vaccinated annually and all reputable boarding
kennels wisely insist upon this.
Yearly fecal checks. - Ask your vet for more
information.
Regular flea control treatments. - Ask your vet for those we recommend.
6 monthly dental examinations. By the age of two over 70% of dogs
and cats will have some sign of dental disease. Not only can this be
painful and lead to tooth loss but if left untreated can damage the
heart, liver and kidneys.
A well balanced diet.
General
advice can either be by appointment at the surgery or over the telephone.
We are more than willing to discuss any matter relating to the
well being of your pet and can provide practical advice and support
on:
- Looking after your new puppy or kitten
- Behavioral problems
- Flea, tic and heartworms
- Senior pet health
- Routine clinical procedures including suture
removals, toenail clipping, and dressing changes
- Diet and prescription foods
- Obesity advice
- Dental advice
- Microchipping
- Pet schemes
- and much, much more
What about older pets?
Dogs and cats enter their senior years around the
age of 7 and can begin to develop diseases such as diabetes,
arthritis and cancer which can initially go unnoticed. We can work
closely with you to evaluate your pet's general health and we would
advise you to consider arranging a routine health check with the vet
every 6 months.
We need your help so please speak up for your pet
and tell us about any changes you've observed in their:
- Weight or appetite
- Behavior
- Skin and coat
- Mobility
Ask us about nutrition and exercise and the role
they can play in optimizing your pet's health.
We can advise upon testing options that can
identify health risks before they become evident, including:
- Routine blood testing
- Urine tests
- X-rays
